Well-Architected Framework Review
Your Cloud, Your Way

The Well-Architected Framework Review was developed by AWS to help cloud architects design and continually improve secure, high-performing, resilient, and cost-optimized infrastructure for their applications. Accelerate and Optimize your Cloud Architecture with an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review Increased velocity of digital innovation, lower capital expenditures, the same state-of-the-art infrastructure and the ability to achieve a global scale in minutes. It’s one thing to “lift and shift” your workload into the cloud, but it’s another story to deeply examine whether that workload is optimized for the cloud. But once you’re in the cloud, how do you know you’re getting the full benefit? That’s where STC Well-Architected Review comes in.
The 6 Pillars of the Well-Architected Framework Review.
Operational Excellence
Improving business outcomes and delivering value to customers and your bottom line are fundamental goals of your cloud strategy. We help you achieve these goals by looking at your processes against a set of design principles and best practices. We’ll help you identify gaps and recommend ways to measure, monitor, and continually improve operations.
Security
All systems are constantly under attack by evolving threats. Your cloud security strategy must evolve to stay ahead by using AI-generated security insights, automated monitoring and remediation, logging, tracing, periodic risk assessments, and mitigation strategies. We’ll look at your enterprise holistically – people, process, and data in transit and at rest — to ensure your security strategy is built on a strong foundation.
Cost Optimization
To truly understand the effectiveness of your cloud strategy, you have to have a clear understanding of your business goals. In other words, it’s not simply how much are you paying, it’s how much business value are you getting. For example, do you want to optimize for speed to market or for cost? In some cases, it’s best to optimize for speed—going to market quickly, shipping new features, or simply meeting a deadline—rather than investing in upfront cost optimization.
Performance Efficiency
The cloud is not static; it is continually evolving with new capabilities enabling new strategies and implementations. Are you keeping up? By reviewing your choices on a cyclical basis, you will ensure you are taking advantage of the continually evolving AWS cloud. The optimal solution for a particular system will vary based on the kind of workload you have, often with multiple approaches combined. Well-architected systems use multiple solutions and enable different features to improve performance
Reliability
Disruptions in service are costly. We will assess your ability to dynamically acquire computing resources to meet demand, and mitigate disruptions such as misconfigurations or transient network issues. When an event occurs, how fast can you get back online? We’ll check to see if your system can detect failures and heal them automatically. You must have sufficient network bandwidth to your data center. These requirements are sometimes neglected. This neglect can have a significant impact on the ability to deliver a reliable system.
Sustainability
The ability to continually improve sustainability impacts by reducing energy consumption and increasing efficiency across all components of a workload by maximizing the benefits from the provisioned resources and minimizing the total resources required.
How does an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review work?
The Well-Architected Framework review requires a statement of works prior to its commencement. A statement of works would need to be agreed on, and signed as commitment to the Well-Architected Review. Get in touch with us to schedule for the initial engagement where we explain the whole process referred below, share the costs assosicated with the review and present other benefits including AWS funds that you can access through your AWS account to assist on the review process and application of other remediations.
Identify the workload to review against the six pillars of the well-architected Framework review. If the review is conducted by STC, read access will be required to analyse the accounts and sufficient access is also required to probe the IAM portion to determine policies in place

The Solution Architect walks through the framework, and what was examined and asks questions concerning architectural issues that require any additional clarification. We will help you architect innovative products and services using the AWS Well-Architected tool to evaluate the current workloads.

After the Review meeting is completed, we will present reports on what was found and a proposal on how to address those findings. It is vital to present our findings and reports within a few days of the Review so that our findings and any proposed recommendations or remediation fixes are all still fresh.

Reviews by nature are not a one-time event and the AWS Well-Architected framework is no exception. We will do a follow-up review after 30 to 60 days to determine how well the implementations were conducted, and whether implementations improved the architecture. Architectures tend to drift over time with changes in business requirements, to incorporating new features and adding new capabilities. During these times, it can be difficult to keep things well-architected. AWS constantly introduces new services. This may result in the situation that what is good architecture today won’t necessarily be optimal in another 6 or 9 months.
